Invest in Access, Invest in Community

When we invest in access, we invest in people. WRTA helps connect residents to opportunity, supports employers and local commerce, and provides an essential public service that benefits the strength, independence, and long-term vitality of our communities.

Fremont County’s Public Transportation

Our History

Established in 1989, the Shoshone and Arapaho Nations Transit (SANTA) commenced public transportation services on the Wind River Indian Reservations and Fremont County. In 1996, governance transitioned to the Fremont County Association of Governments, leading to the transformation of the organization into the Wind River Transportation Authority (WRTA). Since then, the WRTA team has been steadfast in its commitment to serving central Wyoming with transportation.

Our Staff

Our staff are trained professionals dedicated to delivering safe, dependable, and courteous public transportation services. Each team member is trained in accordance with applicable federal public transportation standards and industry best practices, reflecting WRTA’s commitment to safety, compliance, operational excellence, and quality service.

Our Funding

WRTA proudly receives its funding from multiple sources, with primary support coming from:

FTA 5311 Rural Transportation Grant
FTA 5339 Bus and Bus Facilities Grant
WDOT Highway Safety Office
LOR Foundation
Donations

We are deeply grateful for these funding opportunities, as they make it possible for us to continue providing essential transportation services to our community.

Lost & Found:

Every day, we discover items left behind on our vehicles. To help reunite you with your lost belongings, we’ve established a straightforward Lost and Found process.

How it Works:

  • Daily Collection: All items found on WRTA vehicles are reported to our dispatch center and securely cataloged.
  • Retention Period: Items are kept for 30 days from the date they are found.
  • Claiming Your Item: If you believe you’ve lost something on one of our vehicles, please contact our dispatch center with a description of the item. Proof of ownership may be required to reclaim your belongings.
  • After 30 Days:
    • Items will be turned over to the Riverton Police Department.

Exclusions:

Perishable items or items that pose a health or safety risk will be disposed of immediately for the safety of our passengers and staff.
